Mission Statement (Higher Education Program Area of the PC(USA))
We believe that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), a community of God’s
people, is called to be faithful in new places and uncertain times, and one of
the ways it must be faithful is in its mission in higher education. Our church’s
mission calls us to bear a faithful witness to the truth, love, and justice of
God, as expressed in Jesus Christ, in the higher education community in this
country and around the world.
The Higher Education Agency evaluates and supports several colleges and university
campus ministry programs through the budget process of the Presbytery of
Lake Michigan. The Agency provides continuing support and encouragement to
campus ministers, local boards and other partners in campus ministry including
local congregations.
Representatives from each of the
campus ministries plus four members elected at large serve on the
Agency. In addition the campus ministers and a Presbytery staff person serve as
ex officio. The agency meets four times a year rotating among the cities
where a ministry is located.
We support campus ministries on
several campuses throughout the presbytery.
