True North Campus Ministry is focused on helping college students in downtown Grand Rapids make connections between their faith, and their career and life choices. We do this in collaboration with other Christian groups and campus groups. We use movies and the visual arts and speakers to encourage reflection but perhaps our most important events are the smallest ones.
Grand Rapids Community College is a big place, 15,000 plus students. True North and the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at GRCC have partnered to provide a place for Christian students to meet and to talk about faith and life. A few times a week, in a small, windowless conference room we meet with small groups of students over a plate of freshly baked cookies. And we talk.
How do I know I've chosen the right major? I don't know what career I should pursue. How do I recognize God's call for my life? These are big, tough questions. True North is present to help students think them through. There aren't dramatic stories to tell, instead there are moments of insight, a developing sense of clarity and the support of other Christian students. Through True North, the church is present on campus, encouraging students and assuring them that God is with them every step of their journey.
