Below is the write up that was in the local paper after we returned.
Our church has gone on six mission trips and our calling seems to be to
follow the tornado/hurricane winds. We have been to Hoisington, KS, Jackson,
TN, Marengo, IN (twice), D'Iberville, MS, and most recently to Evansville,
IN area...

Sturgis
Presbyterians
aid Katrina survivors
On Thanksgiving week (2005), 16 Sturgis area residents traveled to
D’Iberville, Miss., to aid Hurricane relief efforts at that city just North
of Biloxi.
The members and friends of Sturgis First Presbyterian Church camped on a
city baseball field which served as a base for volunteers serving in
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. The winter camp consisted of 34 huts made
of corrugated plastic (like a cardboard box).
The group ate at an outdoor meal site established by the city and the Red
Cross for residents and volunteers. A city volunteer coordinator assigned
group members to tasks to aid in improving, organizing, and expanding the
volunteer camp0, distribute free food and clothing to residents, demolish a
ruined mobile home, reconstruct a damaged home, serve a community
Thanksgiving dinner, and prepare and serve meals at the meal site. Members
of the group were Phil and Carol Ann Pattengale, Barry and Carol Ann
Gulliver, Jerrie West, Deb Capman, Becca Capman, Dene Ray, Amy Henson-Bohlen,
Diana Henson, Bill Finley, Stephen Wicks, Austin Wicks, Jackie Robertson,
Sorina Swarts, and Will Johnson.
Carol Ann Pattengale reported that Hurricane survivors continue to be in
need of assistance. At this time the most welcome relief comes in the form
of gift cards that can be used to purchase needed items whether it be food,
household supplies or building materials. Clothing supplies are adequate. |

Being a Christian is like being a marathon runner.
Diligent training is required for the long and challenging journey while
keeping our eyes focused on Christ's calling.
