"We
have never seen a state or country come together as completely as this
state has this past week, so there's something special about
Michigan." - Former President Jimmy Carter, June
22, 2005
These are special numbers, but none more special than
1,000 people receiving a new home and new hope. Michigan showed during the
Jimmy Carter Work Project it truly is a special place. The culmination of
the project came on June 24, 2005, when 232 homes in Michigan and 6 in
Windsor, Ontario, were dedicated.
And the Presbytery of Lake Michigan was there. We
co-sponsored a house with the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan that
is now home to April and her 4-year-old son, Courtney.
This was all accomplished by more than 20,000
volunteers working approximately 714,000 hours. Benton Harbor First with
79 members had 37 people involved in some way.
It was an amazing week to witness so many people
involved in working with God's people in need.
